Praying the Scriptures

Wednesday Morning Prayer

December 11, 2024

Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge. I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” (Psalm 16:1–2)

O Lord,

This quiet December morning in New Mexico, I seek Your presence. As the desert chill awakens my senses, I turn to You, my refuge and my strength. The vast skies above remind me of Your infinite glory, and the gentle warmth of the rising sun speaks of Your unwavering love.

“Protect me, O God,” I whisper, just as the psalmist did, “for in You I take refuge.” You are my sanctuary in a world of uncertainties. You are my oasis in the wilderness, my firm rock when the sands of life shift beneath me. I place my trust in You, knowing that Your protection surrounds me as surely as the mountains embrace this desert land.

I say to You, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from You.” How true these words are, Lord! In this Advent season, as I wait with hope for the coming of Christ, I realize anew that every blessing in my life flows from Your hand. The glow of luminarias, the laughter of loved ones, and the beauty of this land all point me back to You.

As I light the candles of Advent, may their flickering flames reflect the light of Christ within me. Let Your Spirit guide me to walk humbly, serve joyfully, and love deeply as I prepare my heart for the celebration of Emmanuel—God with us.

Today, I ask for the grace to trust in You more fully, to find peace in Your presence, and to rejoice in Your goodness. May the sacred stillness of this morning fill my soul with gratitude and my heart with anticipation.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

May this prayer bring you strength and encouragement as you go about your day!
