Praying the Scriptures
Wednesday Evening Prayer
December 11, 2024
Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge. I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” (Psalm 16:1–2)
Holy Lord,
As the crisp desert air brushes against my face and the stars glisten above the New Mexican mesa, I am reminded of your steadfast presence, your sheltering embrace that guides me through this Advent season. The glow of luminarias and the aroma of piñon smoke whisper your peace into this waiting heart.
O God, my refuge, I come to you this evening with gratitude. In the stillness of this sacred time, I rest in your protection, knowing that you are the unshakable rock of my salvation. I lay down the worries of the day, the concerns that weigh heavy on my heart, trusting them to your care.
You are my Lord, my source of all goodness. Without you, my life would lack its light, its purpose, and its joy. Thank you for the blessings of this land—the beauty of its sunsets, the songs of its people, and the rich traditions that remind me of your promise. May I, like the Magi of old, seek you with all my heart, following the light that leads to the Savior.
This evening, I lift up those who walk in darkness, who long for hope, who need to feel the warmth of your love. Let my prayers rise as incense, mingling with the prayers of your saints, and may your presence bring them comfort.
Come, Lord Jesus, into the quiet of this night. Let the anticipation of your birth fill my soul with wonder. As I await the fullness of your coming, may my life reflect your light to a world in need.
In the name of Christ, the Redeemer, I pray,
Amen.
May this prayer bring you comfort and strength as you reflect on God's promises this evening.
