Praying the Scriptures
Tuesday Evening Prayer
December 10, 2024
But for you who revere my name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall. (Malachi 4:2)
Gracious and Eternal God,
As the cool desert air settles over New Mexico tonight, I feel Your presence in the stillness of creation. The Florida mountains glow faintly, a reminder of the warmth that Your light brings to my heart, even as the chill of winter encircles me.
"But for you who revere my name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings." O Lord, I revere Your holy name. Let Your sun of righteousness rise in my soul this evening, scattering the shadows of doubt and fear. Heal the places within me that are broken. Warm the places in my spirit that feel distant or cold.
As the stars begin to emerge in the deepening sky, I am reminded of the promises You have made to Your people. You are faithful to Your word, and Your love is unchanging. Just as the sun rises unfailingly each morning, so too does Your mercy rise afresh each day.
Tonight, I bring before You the burdens of this day. I lay them at Your feet, trusting that Your wings of healing will cover me. Help me to release the cares that weigh on my heart, knowing that You are my refuge and strength.
As I light the Advent candle this evening, I pray for the light of Christ to shine brightly in this land of enchantment, from the adobe homes to the pine-covered hills. Let Your peace reign in the hearts of those who are weary. Let Your joy take root in this season of waiting.
Thank You, Lord, for being the light in my darkness, the warmth in my winter, and the healer of my soul. I rest now in the comfort of Your promises, awaiting the dawn of Your coming.
In the name of the One who is to come, Jesus Christ, I pray.
Amen.
May this prayer bring you peace and comfort this evening.
