Praying the Scriptures
Saturday Morning Prayer
June 28, 2025
For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God; for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. (Romans 8:19–21)
Gracious Creator,
As the sun crests the Florida Mountains and spills its warmth over the rain-soaked desert, I rise into a world freshly washed and full of promise. The earth breathes again—puddles shimmering like small heavens, the creosote rich with the scent of life, and the quiet chorus of doves and quail echoing the hope that stirs within me.
This land—so often dry and waiting—feels alive with longing, as if it too is yearning for the fullness of Your glory. I see it in the wildflowers blooming overnight, in the green shoots daring to stretch skyward, in the silent hush of a world holding its breath. Creation waits, and I wait with it—not in despair, but in expectation.
I know that we are all groaning in this in-between—me, the land, the creatures—all longing for freedom from what binds and breaks. But Your Word promises that this longing is not in vain. It is the labor of birth, not the ache of death. In Your time, all will be made new.
So let me live this day as a child of that promise. May I walk gently on this earth, speak kindly to Your creatures, and reflect even a glimpse of the glory You are revealing. Let my life be part of the answer to the groaning of creation—a testimony of hope in the midst of waiting.
Amen.
May the God who renews the earth with rain refresh your spirit this day, and may you walk in the freedom and glory of one called and cherished by creation itself.
