Praying the Scriptures

Friday Evening Prayer

June 27, 2025

Instead, as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; for it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” (1_Peter_1:15–16)

Holy and Loving God,

As the sun slips behind Red Mountain, spilling ribbons of amber and rose across the quiet desert, I breathe in the cooling air and feel the hush of evening settle over creosote and ocotillo. In this sacred stillness I hear Your call again: “Be holy, for I am holy.” Awe rises in me like the lingering light on distant peaks, and humility steadies my heart as shadows lengthen across the sand.

You who fashioned these rugged horizons, shape my conduct tonight and always. Let every thought, word, and deed echo Your purity, so that the glow of Your holiness outshines the fading day within me. Where harsh winds once carved doubt, breathe transformation; where weariness clings like desert dust, pour the refreshment of Your Spirit.

Strengthen my steps through the coming night, and grant me grace to walk in holiness tomorrow and in all the days You give, until the dawn of Your everlasting light.

Amen.

May the holiness of God guide your heart through the night and awaken you with grace at the dawn of a new day.
