Praying the Scriptures

Saturday Evening Prayer

June 28, 2025

For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God; for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. (Romans 8:19–21)

Creator of Heaven and Earth,

As the last light spills across the rugged spine of Red Mountain, I feel the stillness settle over the land like a sacred hush. The creosote sighs in the fading breeze, the sky blushes in soft amber and rose, and I, too, pause—waiting, like all creation, for the fullness of Your glory.

I see it in the trembling light on the horizon, in the quiet endurance of this desert that has learned to hope through drought and bloom. Paul’s words echo in my soul: creation waits with eager longing—and so do I. Longing for freedom from the weight of decay, for the unveiling of what You are forming in us, for the world to be made whole.

Tonight, I give thanks for every sign of Your promise etched into the land—each blossom born of dry soil, each shadow that gives way to light. Even in the ache of waiting, I find peace in knowing that You are not done with us yet. The desert may be silent, but it is not hopeless.

Let me live as a child of Your kingdom—bringing mercy where there’s pain, speaking life into dry places, and trusting that even in suffering, Your Spirit groans with us toward redemption.

So I rest, under the gathering stars, wrapped in a holy expectancy. The night is not the end—it is the pause before the dawn.

Amen.

May the God who weaves hope into every sunset grant you peace tonight, and awaken in you a deeper longing for the freedom and glory yet to come.
