Praying the Scriptures

Wednesday Evening Prayer

December 18, 2024

Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion; and to you shall vows be performed, O you who answer prayer! To you all flesh shall come. (Psalm 65:1–2)

O God of mercy and steadfast love,

As the sun dips below the desert horizon, painting the skies with Your glory, I pause to offer my praise. You, Lord, are my sanctuary, my hope, and my refuge in this season of waiting. Tonight, I come before You, knowing You are the God who hears every whisper, every cry, and every song of my heart.

In this Advent season, I am reminded of the vows I have made to You—not in mere words, but in the quiet actions of my life. Help me, O Lord, to fulfill them with a spirit of humility and joy. May my every thought and deed reflect Your light in this world, just as the soft glow of luminarias reflects Your peace in this holy time.

You are the God who answers prayer, the One who sees me in my longing and meets me with grace. Tonight, I lift up my voice, not just for myself but for all who are seeking You in the stillness of this sacred season. For those who carry heavy burdens, for those who wait in the shadows of uncertainty, and for those yearning for hope, I ask You to draw near.

Let the crisp New Mexican air remind me of Your Spirit, ever-present and ever-moving. Let the quiet hum of the winter night remind me of Your peace, which surpasses all understanding. And let the promise of Christ’s coming birth renew in me the hope that all flesh shall indeed come to You, O God, in Zion.

Thank You for hearing me tonight, Lord. Thank You for the gift of Advent, where the waiting itself becomes an act of worship.

In the name of Jesus, the One who is, and is to come, I pray.

Amen.

May this prayer bring you comfort and strength as you reflect on God's promises this evening.
