Praying the Scriptures

Sunday Evening Prayer

June 29, 2025

I will sing of your might; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been a fortress for me and a refuge in the day of my distress. O my strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love. (Psalm 59:16–17)

O Lord, my Strength and my Refuge,

As the sun sinks behind Red Mountain and the sky catches fire with streaks of amber and rose, I pause in the quiet of this high desert evening to lift my heart to You. The creosote’s scent rises on the cooling breeze, and long shadows stretch across the sand like the arms of peace embracing the land.

I sing not with my voice alone, but with my soul—grateful for Your steadfast love that carried me through this day. You were my fortress when worries pressed in, my shelter when the heat bore down, my guide when the path seemed uncertain. Even in the stillness now, I feel Your presence close, steadying and sure.

Thank You for being the God who does not change, even when everything else shifts like dust in the wind. You are my stronghold, the keeper of my peace, the source of every joy that springs up like water from a desert well.

As night descends and stars begin to bloom across the darkening sky, I rest in Your love and mercy. I will sleep beneath Your care, and wake again ready to sing of Your might.

Amen.

May the steadfast love of God be your shelter through the night, and His strength your song in the morning.
