Praying the Scriptures
Sunday Evening Prayer
December 8, 2024
And will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long in helping them? I tell you, he will quickly grant justice to them. And yet, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth? (Luke 18:7–8)
O Holy One,
As the sun sets upon this vast and quiet land, I lift my heart to You, longing for Your justice and mercy. Beneath the endless expanse of the New Mexican sky, I feel the weight of the world’s injustices and the cries of the faithful who await Your coming.
You, Lord, are the God of the persistent widow, the God who listens and acts in righteousness. Have You not promised that Your chosen ones, who cry out to You day and night, will find their vindication? Yet, in the waiting, I confess my impatience and my doubts. Will I have the faith You seek when You come again?
In this Advent season of expectation, teach me to wait with steadfast hope, as the desert waits for rain and the chill of evening anticipates the warmth of dawn. Give me a heart that is unshaken, even when answers seem delayed. Strengthen my spirit so that I may not grow weary in prayer but trust in Your perfect timing.
As the stars begin to glimmer over the mesa, I am reminded that Your promises are as steadfast as the constellations, Your justice as sure as the rising sun. Fill my soul with the peace of knowing that You are near, even now, working unseen in the hearts of Your people.
Lord Jesus, come quickly. May I be found faithful, praying, seeking, and living in the light of Your coming.
Amen.
I hope this prayer brings you comfort and peace through the night.
