Praying the Scriptures

Saturday Evening Prayer

January 25, 2025

You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)

Gracious and loving God,

As the sun sets over the desert, painting the Florida Mountains with hues of gold and crimson, I come before You in stillness and gratitude. The cool January air reminds me of the beauty of this place You have called me to, a land that whispers Your glory in its rugged serenity.

Lord Jesus, You declared that I am the light of the world, a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden. In this quiet moment, I reflect on the ways I have lived as Your light today. Did I shine brightly, illuminating Your love and truth to those around me? Or did I, in my human frailty, hide my light under the bushel of fear or distraction? Forgive me, Lord, for the times I have faltered, and renew within me the courage to shine with all the brilliance You have given me.

In this land of open skies and vast horizons, I am reminded that even the smallest flame can be seen for miles in the darkness. Let my life, though small in the grand scheme, be a beacon of hope to others. May my words, actions, and even my silence reflect Your grace, drawing others toward Your warmth and love.

As I prepare for rest, I ask You to rekindle the flame within me. Let the light of Christ in my heart grow brighter with every passing day, that I may illuminate the path for others to find their way to You. Give me wisdom to use my gifts wisely, generosity to share Your blessings, and humility to know that all light comes from You, the true Source.

Father, may Your Spirit sustain me through this night. Guard my heart, my thoughts, and my home as I sleep beneath these stars You have stretched across the heavens. When morning comes, may I rise with renewed purpose to let my light shine before others, so that they may see my good works and give glory to You, my heavenly Father.

In the name of Jesus, the Light of the World, I pray.

Amen.

May this prayer bring peace and comfort to your evening.
