Praying the Scriptures
Monday Evening Prayer
December 16, 2024
The LORD GOD has given me the tongue of a teacher, that I may know how to sustain the weary with a word. Morning by morning he wakens—wakens my ear to listen as those who are taught. (Isaiah 50:4)
Gracious and eternal God,
This evening, as the desert sky grows dim and the air carries the scent of sage and woodsmoke, I come to You in quiet reflection, seeking the wisdom that only You can give. You have given me the tongue of a teacher, and I thank You for the gift of Your Word that sustains me. Teach me to use this gift to speak hope, comfort, and truth in this season of waiting and longing.
Here in the stillness of this New Mexican night, I lift my heart to You. As the stars shine like Your promises, I ask for Your guidance to listen attentively, to awaken each day with ears attuned to Your voice, like a student eager to learn. Help me to hear the cries of the weary and the whispers of Your Spirit in the rustle of the desert wind.
Lord, as we journey through this Advent season, teach me to embody patience and perseverance, to carry the light of Christ in a world often shadowed by doubt. In the quiet moments of this night, prepare me to greet tomorrow with words of encouragement for the disheartened and songs of joy for those who await Your coming.
May my words and actions honor the One who is the fulfillment of all our hope—Your Son, Jesus Christ, the Living Word. Let His light shine through me, illuminating paths of peace and reconciliation as I await His glorious return.
In the holy name of Emmanuel, God with us, I pray.
Amen.
May this prayer bring solace and inspiration as you end your day in reflection and peace.
