Praying the Scriptures

Tuesday Evening Prayer

March 4, 2025

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:1–2)

Holy One,

As the sun sinks behind the distant mesas of southwestern New Mexico this March evening, I pause in the desert stillness and turn my heart to You. In this sacred twilight, I feel the warmth of Your presence, like the day’s lingering glow across the wide sky.

I thank You for surrounding me with a cloud of faithful witnesses—those who have gone before me, those who journey beside me now, and even those who pray for me from afar. Their stories remind me that no burden is too heavy, no journey too long, when I set my heart on You.

Help me, Loving God, to lay aside every weight that holds me back. Cleanse me from every sin that clings so closely, blocking my vision and slowing my steps. May I run, with steadfast perseverance, the path You have laid before me. Even in the quiet hush of this desert evening, let my gaze be fixed on Jesus, the Pioneer and Perfecter of faith. Through His example, may I learn obedience, compassion, and humility.

As the stars blink into life over the desert sky, remind me that I do not walk alone. Your Spirit guides my every step, illuminating my path through the darkness. In this gentle nighttime calm, fill me with hope for tomorrow’s dawn, so that I may continue this race before me, ever looking to You, my strength and my salvation.

In Jesus' name, I pray,

Amen.

May this prayer bring you peace and comfort this evening.
