Saturday Evening Prayer
December 21, 2024
For he received honor and glory from God the Father when that voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven, while we were with him on the holy mountain. (2 Peter 1:17–18)
Heavenly Father,
As the longest night of the year embraces this New Mexican desert, I pause to marvel at the brilliance of Your creation. The mountains stand steadfast, painted in twilight hues, and the cold night air whispers of Your majesty. Even in this quiet moment, I recall the words of Peter, who heard Your voice resound: “This is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.”
Lord, tonight, I, too, listen for Your voice in the stillness. As the earth turns its face back toward the light, I stand in awe of the radiance You revealed to us in Jesus Christ, the Morning Star who rises in our hearts. Like Peter and the others who stood on the holy mountain, I feel the weight of Your glory surrounding me, even in the dark corners of my life.
On this sacred night, I remember the mystery of Your incarnation—a light breaking into the shadows of the world. I pray that my heart, like this desert landscape, be open and ready to receive Your illuminating presence. May I carry Your light to others, as the stars carry their brilliance across the expanse of the heavens.
Lord of time and eternity, the rhythms of creation testify to Your faithfulness. Tonight, as I await the dawn, I offer my hopes, my fears, and my gratitude to You. May Your Son’s love guide me through this season of anticipation, and may Your Spirit awaken in me a deeper longing to live as a witness to Your divine light.
I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Beloved Son, whose glory shines brighter than any earthly star.
Amen.
