Praying the Scriptures

Monday Evening Prayer

June 30, 2025

At that time Jesus said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants.” (Matthew 11:25)

Lord of heaven and earth,

As the sun dips low behind Red Mountain and the desert sky blushes in shades of amber and rose, I pause in the hush of this summer evening to give You thanks. The creosote bushes are still, the cicadas hum softly, and Your peace settles over the land like a gentle breath.

Tonight, I echo the words of Jesus—“I thank You, Father.” Not for grand displays or deep wisdom that dazzles the proud, but for the quiet truth You’ve made known to those with open hearts. In a world chasing cleverness and status, You delight in the childlike, the humble, the trusting—and I long to be counted among them.

As our nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day, I thank You for the gift of liberty. But even more, I thank You for the freedom found in Christ—freedom not to serve myself, but to serve others with love. Let me use this freedom to walk in Your truth and not be bound by the demands of the world.

Reveal Your ways to me as I rest under this painted sky. Make my heart simple, faithful, and grateful. And in the quiet, may I hear Your voice and find joy in being known by You.

Amen.

May the peace of Christ settle over you like the desert twilight, and may His quiet wisdom guide your heart through the night.
