Praying the Scriptures
Friday Evening Prayer
December 6, 2024
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let everyone who hears say, “Come.” And let everyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who wishes take the water of life as a gift. (Revelation 22:17)
Heavenly Father,
As the cool desert air blankets our slumbering earth and the distant hills whisper of Your majesty, I come before You on this serene December evening, my heart echoing the eternal invitation of Your Spirit.
"The Spirit and the bride say, 'Come.' And let everyone who hears say, 'Come.' And let everyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who wishes take the water of life as a gift." Lord, this Advent season renews in us a profound yearning. We are the thirsty, drawing near to the living waters of Your grace, the unfathomable gift of Your love made manifest in the coming of Your Son.
As the stars ascend the high desert sky, mirroring the light of Your truth, guide us to be bearers of this holy light. May our lives reflect the brilliance of Christ’s love, inviting all who wander in the chill of night to come and warm themselves at the fire of Your compassion.
Bless our community, our loved ones, and all who feel the weight of solitude during these lengthening nights. May Your Spirit infuse our every word and deed, that through us, others might hear Your tender call to 'Come.'
In this sacred season of watchful anticipation, mold our hearts anew. Grant us the courage to approach the manger of the newborn King with the same unrestrained joy and awe as the shepherds did that blessed night. Let us cherish and proclaim the good news: that in Christ, the fountain of everlasting life flows freely for all.
Amen.
May this prayer bring you peace and comfort this evening.
