Praying the Scriptures

Thursday Evening Prayer

August 22, 2024

As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and behold the face of God? … Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him. (Psalm 42:1–2, 5)

Heavenly Father,

As the deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for You, O God. In the quiet of this evening, my soul thirsts for You, the living God. When shall I come and behold Your face in worship?

In moments of despair, when my soul is cast down within me, I remember You from the land of Jordan and of Hermon, from the hill Mizar. Your steadfast love by day and Your song in the night guide me.

I will yet praise You for the help of Your presence. O God, my rock and my redeemer, let Your hope rise within me like the morning, casting out all shadows and filling my heart with Your peace.

As I rest tonight, I hold onto Your promises. Renew my spirit, calm my thoughts, and let me wake to a new day, refreshed and ready to walk in Your light.

Amen.

May this prayer bring you peace and comfort as you end your day.
