Tethered to Truth: Trusting God When Deceit Rides In
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them. (Proverbs 11:3)
Introduction
Trust is easy to extend when hearts are hopeful—especially when something good seems just over the horizon. Proverbs 11:3 reminds us that integrity is not just a moral compass; it’s spiritual protection. When deception creeps into our lives—through people, deals, or opportunities that aren’t what they seem—it’s integrity and faith that keep us from being swept away.
Reflection
Kenny and Ginny thought they had found the right horses—a good fit for their ranch and the people they serve. The photos were promising, the messages friendly, the sellers said all the right things. But something in the back of Kenny’s mind raised questions. The payment options felt off, and details didn’t always line up. The more they asked for clarity, the more vague the answers became.
It’s a deeply unsettling thing to realize you may be dealing with fraud—especially when you’ve opened your heart, not just your wallet. Trust feels violated. Time and hope seem wasted.
And yet, even in this moment of uncertainty, Kenny chooses to pause and lean into what cannot be stolen: God’s presence, God’s peace, and the quiet strength of walking uprightly. Whether or not the sellers are honest, Kenny and Ginny are choosing to be. That matters deeply to the Lord.
Application
If you find yourself facing possible deception, don’t rush ahead. Ask hard questions. Take the time to discern, and let your integrity—not emotion—guide the process. Fraudsters want quick decisions; God invites patient wisdom. Whether it’s a horse or a house or a handshake, walk in truth, even if it means walking away.
Reach out for godly counsel. Share your concerns, and trust that God sees what you cannot. The road of integrity may feel longer, but it always leads somewhere safe.
Conclusion
Fraud bruises more than finances—it strikes at trust. But God is our anchor when trust in others fails. He doesn’t just guard our decisions; He shapes our character in the waiting. Walk uprightly. He will guide you where deception cannot reach.
Prayer
Lord of wisdom and truth, You know the details we can’t see. When we feel uncertain or betrayed, steady our hearts and sharpen our discernment. Help us to walk with honesty and caution, without losing compassion. Let integrity guide each step, even when the path feels unclear. Protect us from harm, and give us peace in knowing we are tethered not to outcomes—but to You. Amen.
